GOALTENDER TESTING

The Goalie on-ice testing is organized into tree phases. Phase 1 and 2 consist of Long and Short Recovery tests, for left side and then right side. Phase 3 consists of the Y-drill Reaction Pad Slide and Pro Agility Pad Slide.

Sticks must remain tight to the goalie and are not allowed to be used to break the timing gate beams. Together they simulate critical game play movement (challenging shooters, covering angles, reading and reacting, etc.) to assess a player for:

Lateral, forward, and backwards movement speed and control
Recovery speed and posture
Balance and agility on skates
Reaction, execution and total response time
Flexibility and transition
Crease coverage and mobility

Analyzing the data can pinpoint symmetrical challenges (i.e. is the goalie equally at ease in both directions?). Good scores depend not just on reaction and movement speed but also efficiency and control. Movements must be crisp and clean, while avoiding overreactions. These baseline goalie tests are suitable for assessing goalies of varying styles.
